How Does the Sans Pareil Replica Compare to the Original? | Curator with a Camera Extra

Follow
National Railway Museum

Hot on the heels of his indepth tour of the original Sans Pareil, Senior Curator of Rail Transport and Technology Anthony Coulls is back to show you around the surprisingly colourful replica of the same engine.

Whereas Timothy Hackworth's original version debuted in 1829 after being built in Shildon, the replica—also Shildonbuilt—was created in 1979 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials.

This slightly scaleddown version has many interesting details, and Anthony recalls the time he watched this very locomotive drive past (with some help) during the celebrations when he was six years old.
