How does a turn signal flasher relay blink the lights on your car? How does a flasher work? Do you want to actually SEE the clicking noise happen in REAL TIME!? Well, this video reveals this mystery. You see, it's the turn signal flasher making that clicking noise that you hear. Now, the turn signal flasher has a bimetallic spring inside of it that heats up as the electricity flows through it. When it warms up, the little metal spring bends, and breaks the electrical connection for the turn signal which turns the lights off momentarily. Then the bimetallic spring cools back down, and the contact is made again, which turns on the lights and restarts the cycle again.

If you try to use LED lights with a flasher that has a bimetallic spring inside, it won't work, because LED's do not draw enough electricity through the circuit to heat up the spring inside the flasher. This means your LED lights will turn on, but not flash. To correct this problem, you need to replace your old style turn signal flasher with one meant for LED bulbs. These flashers work with a tiny circuit board instead of a bimetallic spring. So they will work with LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs.
