Homemade Challah Bread

This challah bread is absolutely gorgeous with it's braided look and shiny top, but it's quite delicious as well!

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups allpurpose flour
1 package dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg yolk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water

Recipe
1.Mix 1 1/4 cup flour, (save the rest for later) yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
Heat water and 1 tbsp vegetable oil in microwave for 1 minute. Add to the flour mixture.
2. Mix with electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute. Mix again on medium speed for 1 minute. Add 1 egg and beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make dough easier to handle.
3. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes or until elastic and smooth. Place in greased bowl and turn greased side up. Cover and let the dough rise in warm place for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until double.
Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.
4. Lightly grease cookie sheet with cooking spray.
5. Punch down dough and divide into 3 equal pieces. Roll each segment into a rope, roughly 14 inches long. Place ropes close together on prepared cookie sheet.
6. Braid ropes loosely, do not stretch. Fasten ends and tuck under the braid securely. Brush with oil. Cover and let rise for 4050 minutes or until double.
7. Heat oven to 375F. Mix egg yolk and 2 tablespoons water, brush over braid.
8. Bake 2530 minutes or until golden brown. Check bread at 15 minutes and fully cover with aluminum foil if it is browning too quickly. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack, cool.
