Posterity has cast Adolf Hitler as a ruthless warlord and inspired strategist. His blitzkrieg victory over France, Europe's leading military power, stunned the world and completed the Third Reich's conquest of Western Europe. But the Führer may have had the intuition, but he was not the author of the victorious and unprecedented campaign plan.

Hitler was certainly a war leader. But his pride and his mortifying ideology blinded him. In the course of the conflict, the selfproclaimed strategist turned out to be an amateur whose mistakes plunged Germany into the abyss of disaster.
