The root of Canadian racism is transported through settler colonialism. Cultural norms, moral, and social stratification flow from this system of thought. Canadian systems are embedded with assumptions and beliefs that center Eurocentrism/Whiteness as the default of what constitutes “normal” and “civilized.” Definitions that structure our legal and social systems emerge from the Eurocentric worldview and are imposed on Indigenous peoples despite the misalignment with Indigenous lifeways.
