A major blaze has torn through the historic stock exchange building in Copenhagen, toppling its famous 400yearold spire.

More than 100 firefighters tried to battle the fire after it broke out on Tuesday morning.

Some passersby joined emergency services to rush inside the burning building to rescue paintings and other valuable artefacts stored inside.

There were no reports of injuries.

It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze.
