After several days of cold hard rain, the weather cleared. I gambled we'd get one day before the black flies emerged in force, so I hiked to High Falls in the Five Ponds. I expected the trail to be flooded in places and chose Muck boots instead of hiking boots. That was also a calculated risk sweaty sore feet vs. cold, wet muddy pants, boots and socks.
