I love the Fall and what better time for hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in sunny California. The mosquitos are gone, the sun is golden, and the temperatures are perfect not to mention the summer crowds have dissapated. My son is now 15 months old, and we decided to hike with him along the Virginia Lake trail system up to the Frog Lakes for a quick afternoon hike.

There are numerous trails in Mono County that stand out from the crowd. Robinson Creek, Lundy Canyon, Twenty Lakes Basin, Crown Point Loop, and Virginia Lakes round out our personal top five in Mono County.

The Virginia Lakes hike is a great option for everyone from total beginners to seasoned backpackers. If you want to keep it short, follow the main trail to Blue Lake, Cooney Lake, and Frog Lakes for an easy to moderate 3mile hike.

If you want to push further, head past Frog Lakes to Burro Pass, Summit Lake, Green Lake, Hoover Lakes, and much more. Your options here are virtually endless.
