In this episode I provide the history of the Jaguar Xtype, which was the first entrylevel high volume compact luxury car for Jaguar which it was first released for sale in 2001. The Xtype was the second Jaguar produced as part of the Premier Automotive Group, which comprised of 4 import brands that Ford had acquired beginning in 1999. Following the initial success of the Stype, a larger and more expensive midsize sedan, the Xtype was to be a volume leader for Jaguar, and Ford had hopes of 100,000 sold per year. However its roots as a Ford Mondeo took over much of the press, ultimately hurting the car's image , even though less than 20% of the car was based on Ford parts and design. Despite adding an estate model by 2004, the Xtype slowly faced to the end of its run in 2009, soon after Ford had to give up all of its former import brands to save itself from bankruptcy.
