“Hegemonic” masculinity means allencompassing leadership or dominance. Hegemonic masculinity is therefore, overpowering masculinity. This form of masculinity is about power and asserting power over others. Hegemonic masculinity demands submission. This video discusses the various social institutions that construct and promote hegemonic masculinity.
