Hauling Hay with Draft Horses Using Loose Hay Forks/Training a Percheron Stallion

Follow
Trinity Dairy

We're over at Alan's parent's farm for the day. The Draft Horses need a bale of hay fed out, so that means it's time to harness up the team and get to work. Leonard shows his unique way of moving round bales using loose hay forks. Leonard also shows his other homemade way of packing down the logging trails the horses use in the woods. The Belgian gelding and Percheron Cross mare show off their "horsepower" pulling the round bale out to the round bale feeder. The horses pull the twines off the bale and Leonard gets the feeder over the bale, and then places a chain grid over the bale that keeps Stub, the Belgian gelding, from throwing all the hay out of the feeder. After that, Stub is hooked up with Prince, Leonard's Percheron stallion. Prince is only 16 months old and just starting his training. We'll see how he's coming along as he pulls the sleigh with Stub. Lastly, the horses are unharnessed and running back out to their pasture to enjoy their wellearned bale of hay! Thanks for watching.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
