Dr. Eben Alexander spent more than 25 years as an academic neurosurgeon, 15 of them at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School in Boston. During those years he personally treated hundreds of patients who suffered serious alterations in their level of consciousness. Many of these patients were in comas due to trauma, brain tumors, ruptured aneurysms, infections or strokes. He believed he had a very clear idea of ​​how the brain generates consciousness, mind and spirit.

In the predawn hours of November 10, 2008, he fell into a coma from a rare and mysterious bacterial meningoencephalitis of unknown cause. He spent a week in a coma on a ventilator, and his prospects for survival were rapidly diminishing.

On the seventh day, to everyone's surprise, he began to wake up. The memories of his life had been completely erased within the coma, but he woke up with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep in another realm, more real than this earthly one! His eldest son advised him to write down everything he could remember about his trip, before reading anything about neardeath experiences, physics, or cosmology.

Six weeks later, he completed the initial recording of his extraordinary journey, totaling more than 20,000 words. He then began to read and was amazed by the commonalities between his journey and so many others told across cultures, continents and millennia. His journey contributed key insights to the mindbody debate and to our human understanding of the fundamental nature of reality. His experience clearly revealed that we are conscious despite our brains and that, in fact, consciousness is at the root of all existence.

He has been blessed with a complete recovery that is inexplicable from the point of view of modern Western medicine.

Since his NDE, Dr. Alexander has dedicated himself to sharing information about neardeath experiences (NDEs) and other spiritually transformative experiences and what they teach us about consciousness and the nature of reality. She continues to promote research into the unifying elements of science and spirituality and, along with Karen Newell, regularly teaches others ways to harness our higher mind and heart power to facilitate improved healing, relationships, creativity , orientation and much more.
