Hand Fabricating A Brand New Chassis Rail For Mat Armstrong's Classic BMW E24 635 CSI - Part 4

Follow
Yorkshire Car Restoration

In episode 4 of the restoration of Mat Armstrong's BMW E24 635 CSI we start off by unstitching the old rotten rusty chassis rail. We then set about repairing the floor which was behind the chassis rail and finally get on to hand making a brand new section of chassis rail to replace what was rotten.

We made the whole section out of 1 sheet of metal and it fits perfectly! Getting this section of chassis rail will really get some structure back into the car! This is a major structural section which was non existent before. Its almost like we got this section of chassis rail straight from the dealer! We are looking forward to getting this section welded in properly! But first we will need to fully weld that floor section in and protect it from corrosion. Also there is another small repair to do on the floor before this chassis rail section goes in!
