Continental Telegraph Co. runs a telegraph line to the town and the castle. They know that the telegraph is necessary to stop the activities of the bandits, but only the bandits can see the importance of the telegraph. They steal supply wagons from the boys, leaving only enough supplies to run a 30mile line between Fort Dodd and Fort Jackson. However, bandits attack the camp, killing everyone, including Tom and Emily.
