Army wing out deflate 4km

Run 1 of 3

I always get a good feeling when it’s onshore! More than good, I get excited. It wasn’t always that way though, or was it… there has been a period at least where onshore was more daunting and difficult, when the stakes somehow also felt higher. I thinks it’s due to the speed of the bumps for getting up on foil that made it difficult, but also I didn’t understand it so well either.

The swells get more blocky, there’s more bad choices to be had at takeoff. By contrast, when you have offshore or bay bumps everything is mostly steep and close together. It seems the choices are more regular in shape. I guess I’d say to someone regarding onshore ocean bumps to pick your moments as best you can. Wait for something that looks or feels familiar before putting in effort for takeoff. Sorry I’m reminiscing.

This session was onshore but medium light by most standards, perhaps 15kts? The fact the it was gloomy and rainy seems to add a Knott or two.

I use the 1201 with 35 skinny, and it is what it is… the 35 is small and requires the rider to really start riding the front foil. If you don’t know what this means you might be lucky and doing it already or behind in the stance game like I was unroll a few months ago. I talk about it a bit in the podcast chat with Dylan, I think around 1hr46 or 1hr56… if you are relying on the stabiliser for lift you will struggle with the smaller rear foils.

Once mastered enough to use it the 35 is lively and feels dragless. It’s perhaps not as quick yet for me as the 40 due to rider error. I’m currently still afraid of the 35, I’m not sure I’m up to it just yet. I’m going to keep playing with it though. Especially on short runs, I’ll save the longer ab runs for the 40 still.

If you are using the art pros especially but any of the axis foils really, you must try a skinny. Perhaps the 50 to start if you’re unsure. If it doesn’t feel right I feel this is the litmus test for your stance and you may have some work to do. If you have questions ask in the comments. If you have some discussion topics for me to give my thoughts in an upcoming pod also give me your thoughts.

Peace and ride well!
