This fly pattern is effective for imitating Brachycentrus adult caddisflies as a dry fly on the surface or as a sunken adult. The shuck is a sign of vulnerability that trout key in on when targeting their food. The bulkier body of the fly is another element that represents the caddis. Even dead drifting on the surface, the softhackled collar, representing legs, will have some movement from the current. Fish this fly both during hatches and egg laying as the two often overlap. The fly pattern can also be adapted to match other caddis species. This fly works on all water types as it sits low in the film but also floats well, has good movement and is highly visible to the angler.
