After years and years of buildup and anticipation, we finally have Thrawn back in all his glory. Played wonderfully again by Lars Mikkelsen, Thrawn's charisma and menace looms over the Star Wars universe once more, and with the Kiners' theme for the titular villain from Rebels returning. For Ahsoka, the Kiners gave Thrawn a much more raw, alien, militaristic sound to his theme, with loud fog horns signaling his ominence and arrival and loud marching band percussion accompanying his everchanging plans and tactics. It gives this older Thrawn a much more visceral, menacing edge musically that adds so much to his character. The main allure of Thrawn's theme however is of course the organ, played to convey his machievellian nature and convey the sense of grandeur accompanying him. Several organ ostinatos surround him, one specifically for planning and action scenes that's unique to Ahsoka, and the menacing twonote ostinato from Rebels making a return in all of it's calculated glory. These all serve to give Thrawn his musical backbone of course, but his main motif is an imperative, authoritative theme that conveys his might very efficiently and gives him a very intimidating atmosphere. With all of these musical aspects together, especially the track Thrawn's Arrival where his theme plays in full for the only time in the score, it creates an ominous, impending, calculated theme that conveys not just the power and strength of Thrawn, but his intellect and coldness as well. With his foray into live action, the Kiners prove once more that Thrawn's theme is one of the best new villain themes in Star Wars period.
