So I've been using blogger for my personal blog for the last month. It's a great blogging platform and ideal for more of a casual, hobby project. It's not without it's drawbacks however. Get a custom domain at Namecheap: https://davidutke.com/namecheap'>https://davidutke.com/namecheap

Blogger was one of the original blogging platforms launch well over a decade ago and still developed and maintained. It allows you to quickly and easily get a blog up and going and has a few distinct advantages and disadvantages you should know about:

PROS:

Free web hosting. To have your own website, you typically need to pay for hosting. This is a standard cost of around $10 a month for a shared hosting account. With blogger, you get free hosting for your blog.

Decent onpage SEO. Compared to Google Sites, you can actually create content that can rank because the structure of the blog, the blog posts and the titles and meta descriptions all help your website rank. You can actually go after keywords and phrases with a blogger blog and rank so you can make money from your blog.

Can setup a custom domain and you get an SSL certificate. This is great because you can get yourwebsite.com, instead of some weird blogspot sub domain. Get your custom domain names at Namecheap because they have some of the lowest prices for dot coms: https://davidutke.com/namecheap'>https://davidutke.com/namecheap

CONS:

Dates in the URL. You have to have dates in your permalinks. This is a suboptimal permalink structure.

Design restrictions. I love adding essential legal stuff and disclaimers to my blog. With blogger, you need to edit the HTML to unlock the footer so you can add gadgets. Also adding a header that looks sharp is difficult too.

Adsense integration. Unlike your own WordPress website where you can apply to AdSense and then run auto ads. You need to wait for your blogger blog to "qualify" for AdSense. What is the qualification? I have no idea. It's a big mystery.
