Sky News host Rita Panahi says it’s “good news” that the global coalfired power capacity grew by two per cent.
Ms Panahi joined geologist Ian Plimer to discuss the increase in coal being used globally despite Australia planning on shutting down more coalfired power stations.
“Coalfired power capacity grew by two per cent last year across the globe.
“That’s the highest annual increase since 2016 as China and India open more and more plants as we rush to shut down our own sources of cheap, reliable energy.
“Australia’s rushed to shut down coal plants and transition to renewables, which we are told is the cheapest form of energy, is actually seeing power prices soar domestically.”
