I originally said I wasn't going to do too many things to my bike because as you spend more money on changes, it shows maybe I should have just bought a more expensive bike. Oh well! It's time for some new tires, and because of that I am going see if I can go tubeless. My 2021 Trek Marlin 7 came with Bontrager Connection wheels which are not tubeless ready (the 2022 Trek Marlin 7 comes with Kovee wheels which are tubeless ready). However, I've seen some videos and talked with some people on Reddit that have done it without issues. So here we go!!!!!
This is the third video where I actually try to go tubeless. Try is the key word. I was able to find so much information about tires, but @Worldwide Cyclery seemed to have some of the best information out there. To be honest, there was so much information I went back and forth on which tires to buy for a while, and to be really honest... I'm still wondering if I should have gone with a more aggressive tread pattern. I decided to go with a Maxxis Rekon 29x2.4 in the rear with dual rubber and EXO casing. For the front tire I chose a Maxxis Minion DHR II 29x2.4 with 3C MAXX TERRA rubber and EXO casing.
After thinking I was going to with gorilla tape, some amazon presta valves, and stan's sealant; I compared pricing on Amazon with the offerings on Worldwide Cyclery, and found the better option for me was to purchase the MucOff Ultimate Tubeless Kit which comes with MucOff Tape, MucOff Presta Valves, and MucOff Sealant.
Check out the video to see how everything seemed so easy, and then I had a big FAIL at the end of trying to go tubeless.
