Yes both men and women are affected by androgenetic alopecia. But however the presentation differs in both hair loss occurs at an early onset and most common even at the adolescent age in men and it is very extensive involving larger scalp area but in males it involves diffuse thinning of the scalp which is visible as parting of the hair length before taking any kind of medication. Diagnosis of the cause leading to hairall is important after the proper diagnosis based upon the underlying cause. The treatment should be proceeded for androgenetic alopecia. The main drugs of choice are either minoxidil and finasteride. Minoxidil is available in oral and topical formulations and finasteride is available in oral formulations. So as prescribed by your dermatologist the medications has to be continued on long term.
