Ghost Town Tour – Insinger Saskatchewan

Follow
Chris Luckhardt

At the dawn of the last century, more than two million Europeans immigrated to the prairies of western Canada. The Canadian government, wanting to significantly boost its agricultural production and strengthen its political stronghold, heavily promoted western Canada to European settlers. The settlers set up farms and small towns across the vast and harsh landscape.

At its peak, the Insinger ghost town was home to 100 residents and had two general stores, shops, a hotel, a church, and a school. But as the years passed, people moved away...or moved on. Today, the buildings are empty and falling into ruin.

Chris Luckhardt has documented and photographed some of the most iconic and viral images of abandoned places around the world. He was among the first photographers to publish photos in the press from legendary abandoned places like Hashima Island, Nara Dreamland, Michigan Central Station, and Six Flags New Orleans. His body of work has led to collaborations with The White House, Netflix, Ford, GQ China, ABC News, Good Morning America, Scholastic Canada, Yahoo! Japan, and many more. In 2016, the Obama administration invited Chris to photograph a private citizen "haunted" tour of The White House.
