Dog coats are a great way of helping to keep your dog warm and dry in the winter months, but can also be used to help the dog dry after swimming and wet walks all year round. There are even dog coats available that help to keep them cool in the summer. Whatever type of dog coat you choose, you want to make sure it fits to help ensure your dog is comfortable when he or she is wearing it.

In this video, Kathryn from RB Equestrian shows how to measure for a dog coat on a dog called Sammy.

To measure your dog for a dog coat:

• Get your dog on a flat surface where you can measure them easily. If they’re calm, that will make your job a lot easier.
• Take a tape measure, ideally one with cm and inches as different manufacturers size their dog coats in different measurements.
• Measure along the dog’s back from where the collar is to the top of the tail. Follow the dog’s spine for this measurement.
• If your dog’s measurement falls between sizes (such as Sammy, who’s a 13”), you can decide whether to go for a slightly shorter or slightly longer fit.
