It’s more important NOW than ever to start learning how to do your own RV maintenance.

This video is a follow up of my last video:
“2022 RV Predictions • I Hope You’re Paying Attention”
   • 2022 RV Predictions • I Hope You’re P...

Starting today & every week going forward to the end of year I’d like all of us to commit to two things:
1) All of us commit to learning something new about our RV every week. Here’s what I mean:
We all have different kinds of RV’s and all us have a different understanding of them & the systems in them. For me personally I’m always reading about something about RV’s practically everyday. Sometimes I’ll read a story on a blog, watch a YT video or read a post on a RV forum that sparks my interest. I may not even have that type RV, that system or experienced the problem they did. But it caught my attention. So I’ll zero in on that subject and I may spend an hour or two digging into it to better understand that subject. That’s what I’m suggesting to you. Consider it going to RV school.

2) All of us commit to doing at least one maintenance item on your RV once a week. It can be a simple item or it can be more involved. If you can’t think of something to do very week, you’re not looking hard enough. And that is really what performing PM is. PM is Preventative maintenance. It’s things you do on a consistent basis to PREVENT bad things from happening in the first place.

AND THEN…..come back here to this video and write in the comments what you did every week.

Not being afraid to learn and getting your hands dirty is the path to freedom and self reliance. In todays world you can learn anything you want. We have a wealth of knowledge and information at our finger tips. We just have to make learning a priority in our lives.

SAFETY
The more you learn and the more you do, the more you’ll know how to approach and fix different things safely that come up. Start small if your new to working on things yourself. This is especially true—but not limited to—electrical things. Having a good understanding of how electrical things work in RV’s is important before you begin a project or an upgrade. So get some basic knowledge and understanding on how to diagnose common electrical problems with a multimeter. You can do it safely if you learn. Don’t be afraid to learn.

If you need to work under your RV you’ll have plenty of clearance and be safe if you have a pull behind trailer or a 5th wheel just sitting on the tires in most cases. On a gas motorhome don’t use or rely on your leveling jacks to raise it up to work under it. Most gas motorhomes—like ours—have plenty of clearance to slide under it just sitting on the tires. But if you have any type of motorhome, or any other type of RV that’s close to the ground, run it up on wooden ramps under the front and back tires to give you the clearance you need to work on it safely. There are other ways to support an RV that’s to close to the ground like axle stands and so forth, but using wooden ramps or stacking leveling blocks is the easiest and safest way to do it IMO.

In summary:
1) All of us commit to learning something new about your RV every week.
2) All of us commit to doing one maintenance item or a PM item on your RV once a week and then come back here and share what you did.

DISCLAIMER:
We are in no way experts or professional mechanics. But being a journeyman millwright for years & being EX Military, has proven to be very helpful in my lifetime learning how to care for & maintain all sorts of machinery & equipment like: helicopters, airplanes, tanks, motorcycles & many types of other vehicles. That, along with 18 months preparing & upgrading our RV before we went full time, & now traveling for several years has gained us a lot of knowledge. Regardless of what we recommend, consult a professional if you're unsure about working on your RV. Work you perform or products you purchase based on any information we provide is at your own risk.
