In this week’s Medical Grand Rounds, Bob Wachter, chair of the UCSF Department of Medicine and author of the bestselling book, The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype, and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age, discusses healthcare’s digital evolution — beginning with the widespread introduction of electronic health records starting about 15 years ago. He’ll describe the current context that will shape the implementation of generative artificial intelligence tools (such as GPT4 and Gemini), and analyze (as he did in a recent JAMA article) why the stage is set for true digital transformation in the next several years.
