Insects are one of the most successful groups of animals on the planet. They are thought to account for up to ninety percent of animal species. But having survived millions of years, many insects are now being driven to extinction by human actions.

Professor Dave Goulson has spent over thirty years studying insects in the UK, specialising in bumblebees. In his recent books, The Garden Jungle and Silent Earth, he has turned his attention to insect declines and what we can do about it. He explains how growing spaces, from window boxes to bigger gardens, offer huge potential to bring wildlifefriendly habitats back and boost nature across the country.
