A 20yearold gang member, Trayd Tahau, whose criminal spree covered the North Island and involved the grievous act of slicing off a shop worker's thumb, has been sentenced to eight years and four months in jail. Additionally, Judge Glen Marshall in the Hamilton District Court imposed a minimum nonparole period of half the sentence for his involvement in numerous aggravated robberies.
One of his brutal acts took place at the Irvine Street dairy in Hamilton. Tahau stormed into the store Armed with a menacing machete and accompanied by three cohorts on 17 December 2022.
