Talking to cats may be really cathartic. Don't dismiss it until you give it a try, even though you might think cat people who communicate with their pets are crazy.
Even when cats act in obscenely annoying ways (it happens, it really does), they are frequently so annoyingly adorable while doing so that we quickly forget about it.
And of course, cats have the same annoyingly charming appeal working in their favor that makes a cat person want to immediately forgive them when they misbehave and do things they know they shouldn't (again, it happens!).
If you prefer some of the many aspects of having a child, such as having someone who needs you, who wants your attention and affection, and whose life is made better and happier by your presence and care, cats and other pets might give you the feeling that they are children who never grow up.
Although you might not be interested in these things, many people adore the sensation of need and worth.
