Fun Things To Do In Huntsville Alabama

Before coming to Huntsville we had never visited Alabama and were intrigued when we found out there was actually a ton to do an experience here.

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center.  is a museum operated by the government of Alabama, showcasing rockets, achievements, and artifacts of the U.S. space program. Sometimes billed as "Earth's largest space museum.” This is also where they do Space Camp for students ALL OVER THE WORLD educating the next generation about science and space exploration. When we went it was closed due to Covid but even walking around the outside and seeing all of the rockets were amazing! I had no idea they were so big.

Monte Sano State Park is a gorgeous place to get some hiking in. It is a publicly owned recreation area and mountaintop retreat encompassing 2,140 acres on the eastern portion of the top and slopes of Monte Sano Mountain. They have a neat Japanese Garden to walk through and a planetarium and observatory.

Check out Big Spring International Park which is located in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. The park is built around its namesake "Big Spring", the original water source that the city of Huntsville was built around. The Huntsville Museum of Art and Von Braun Center are located in the park. Great place to pass an afternoon.

By now you are probably hungry and if you are wanting to try some truly Southern Food go check out Gibson’s BarBQ. I wanted to try the most southern thing I could think of so had Deep Fried Catfish, fried Okra and for dessert Chess Pie. MMMMMMMM.

To end one honorary mention of activities we did not personally did not have time to do but looked like a blast and is also free.

Lowe Mill. A Historic factory building redeveloped into 148 working studios for over 200 artists and makers, six fine art galleries, hallway exhibits, a record store and more.

Do you know other fun free things to do in Hunstville Alabama that I did not mention here? Feel free to comment below so we can check it out next time we are in the are.
Well thank you for watching Traveling on a Shoestring and joining us on our adventure. Now go out there and make your own!

Hey Guys, one last thing before I sign off. Because of Covid 19 Turns out  U.S. Space & Rocket Center museum and Space Camp had to shut down for 4 months and now are seeing drastically diminished attendance. They currently have a go fund me going on trying to raise funds so they can last the year. If you feel inspired to help please follow the link below of this video an go donate whatever you can. This place was truly amazing and deserves to be preserved for future generations and for you fellow travelers. https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/cam...
