Paid an electrician to rewire our entire house. Got the keys to this house in august 2022 and found all the lighting circuits had no earth wires which, is fine if you use Class 2 (double insulated) light fittings and switches but I didn’t want to limit our choices for the future. Secondly, we had a plug socket quite literally ‘blow up’ whilst using a wallpaper stripper and finally, the consumer unit was really old with metal fuses which, by modern standards is not safe enough.

We only had a fiveweek window to complete the works as well as decorate as much of the upstairs as possible to make the house semiliveable so we had to bite the bullet and pay for the work to be done....
