Today we tour the Grocery Row Gardens created by David The Good, in his Lower Alabama backyard.

In this permaculture garden, trees and shrubs and herbs, flowers and vegetables and vines, all grow together in an organized system.

This is a Zone 8b garden, with many perennial crops, including mulberry, chestnut, elderberry, taro, cassava, Dioscorea yams, apple, pear, peach, Goumi berry, Jerusalem artichoke, yacon, green onions and more.

A Grocery Row Garden system is a food forest that is kept in a row system, allowing greater edges and more control. We use the "Grow a Little Fruit Tree" method of pruning fruit trees small to keep them growing in the rows, then build vegetable gardens around our backyard orchard, all in long, notill garden beds.

Today we see what a Grocery Row Garden looks like only about eight months after planting in the fall.
