On October 5, 2023 we hiked to Forest Lakes, both lower and upper, in the James Peak Wilderness. The James Peak Wilderness does not require a permit to day hike or backpack. Dogs welcomed but must be leashed. The parking area fills up fast in the summer months so arrive before 7am. This is a beautiful area of the Rockies! 8 miles and 1859 feet of elevation gain.
