After a typical evening nest exchange, a subadult bald eagle followed Jackie to the basement of the nest tree. She had to eject it twice before it got the message.
Correction: we referred to the intruder as a ājuvenileā in the video. The proper identification for the visitor is āsubadultā. There is an excellent explanation of the differences between juvenile and subadult bald eagles here: https://avianreport.com/ageandident.... Basically, a juvenile is in its first plumage, which replaces the coat of down while the eaglet is still in the nest. A subadult (sometimes referred to as immature) is older than one year and has replaced the juvenile plumage for what is called an immature plumage.
