Interesting day yesterday. I made point of driving up to the Otaki River as I’ve crossed the bridge a thousand times enroute to other waters, and always thought “I will fish it one day” as I have never seen anyone fishing it, nor heard much about it... So I did!

Was a lot of fun sigh fishing to these wee beasties, loads of fish and some Rainbows! Never knew they were in the system. Saw some decent fish well over 56lbs as well, but in very tricky spots.

Landed about 10 and lost a few more, fish we’re a mix of skinny and chubby and some we’re definitely displaying estuarine / searun colouration. The water was very warm and clear and most took small dries.
