In this video @WhitewaterGundogs Trainer Rob Barlow shows four of our dogs working on a drill purposefully set up to help upland dogs learn how to deal with flush on retrieve scenario. This situation comes up both in competition events such as field trials and while hunting in the field. No one wants their dog to be heading out on a known retrieve only to flush a new bird, but it happens and the best we can do as trainers is to prepare the dog for it. Because we all know that flying birds are WAY MORE INTICING than the bird that has just been shot, untrained dogs are more likely than not to abandon the first bird and take up chase on the new bird, which could mean the loss of both birds.
