Spoon fishing for steelhead can be one of the most fun ways to actually catch these beautiful fish! Spoons can be very effective for catching steelhead in a lot of scenarios once you learn how to master the technique. Casting, retrieving, and swinging spoons for steelhead has been a technique used forever by salmon, trout, and steelhead anglers around the globe. The basic way to fish a spoon is to cast slightly up river, drift the spoon down into the run and swing the spoon through the run, as it wobbles back and forth close to the bottom you're looking to entice and aggressive steelhead take. Rigging the spoon we like to use a barrel swivel to a split ring, to the spoon, to another split ring, then to another barrel swivel and finally to the 1/0, 2/0, or 3/0 open eye siwash hook. In this tutorial Marlin from Addicted Fishing is going to go over in depth rod, reel, line, hardware, and spoons you need to get started.
