Getting a new puppy is such an exciting time, but during that first week home, what do you actually do? Today I am going to share the 4 things you absolutely need to do as soon as you bring that new puppy home. To set your new puppy up for success during the first week home you want to have a schedule or routine to follow. The most successful puppy owners have a routine to follow that first week with your new puppy.

The second thing you want to work on with your puppy during the first week home is potty training. To be successful in potty training your puppy, you will want to learn your pups potty habits and start teaching your puppy where to go potty as soon as you bring the puppy home. Preventing potty accidents as much as possible that first week home will help teach your puppy right from wrong.

My next tip to help you survive the first week home with a new puppy is to manage your puppy's space. You want to make the first week as error free as possible, which is best achieved by keeping constant supervision of the puppy and only allowing the puppy access to one area of the home. Giving your puppy too much freedom too early is the biggest mistake new puppy owners usually make.

My last tip to help you survive the first week home with your new puppy is to give your puppy alone time every day. This alone time should be in a controlled environment like a crate or puppy pen. Teaching your puppy to have alone time as soon as you bring your puppy home will help prevent separation anxiety.
