Finishing Walnut: 2 Steps to a Gorgeous Dark Brown Wood Finish

Follow
Woodworkers Source

We know how much you woodworkers love walnut for your projects! So here's an awesome way to finish your walnut project using 2 popular products to do two things:
1). bring out the natural ultra dark brown color, and
2). give it an ironcladtough top coat to withstand the years

So here's the scoop. We wanted to use a water based finish on this walnut table top. But the problem with water based finishes is that they're BLAH. Sorry, I mean they don't provide much punch to the color of the wood, especially walnut.

So here's the fix. Hit your walnut project with a gorgeous "dark walnut" Danish oil, let it dry, then move on with the water based clear top coat.

You'll get the best of both worlds: a sweet, bold natural walnut color that's out of this world, and you'll get the ease (and environmental brownie points) with the water based top coat finish.

Here's how we did it using:
Watco Black Walnut Danish Oil
General Finishes High Performance Water Based Topcoat
Good old fashioned elbow grease
