Most ATRAC videos are just demo videos. This video is more. We explain the worst thing you can do when using ATRAC. We explain exactly how it works, how to use it correctly, when to use it, when not to use it, and when to use MultiTerrain Select instead.

Here are some additional notes on ATRAC:

1. Tech Note: ATRAC works best with constant rpms in the range of approximately 18002200 rpms. If you drop below 1800 rpms, the system will stop applying brake pressure and you will lose traction. If you exceed 2200 rpms, ATRAC will release brake pressure to protect the drivetrain components.
2. Breaking Note: If you apply brakes with your foot pedal while ATRAC is actively working, it will deactivate ATRAC. It will work again when you release the brake pedal.
3. Traction Note: ATRAC only works if at least one tire has traction.

Please note: I have an aftermarket ARB air locker on my front axle. I also show a couple comparisons between MTS and the ARB air locker.

Please Note: Tacoma cannot operate MTS in 4H. However, 4Runner can operate MTS in 4H as explained below.

The Tacoma manual states:

"The Multiterrain Select can be operated when
●The fourwheel drive control switch is in “4L” position."

That's it. That's all the manual says. Just 4L. There is no 4H MTS setting for Tacoma.

However, the 4Runner manual is different. It states: "Multiterrain Select can be activated when
● Vehicle speed is approximately 7 mph (12 km/h) or less.
● MUD & SAND: The frontwheel drive control lever is in L4 or H4.
LOOSE ROCK, MOGUL and ROCK: The frontwheel drive control lever is in L4."

So, yes the 4Runner can operate MTS Mud&Sand setting in 4H.
