Episode highlights

3:36 “I didn't really realise until I entered the world of work, that the world wasn't run by women because in my family it was.” Debbie Wosskow

10:10 "The things that really matter to me are ensuring that women have better financial outcomes and being unashamedly for profit.” Debbie Wosskow

12:16 “I've been appointed by the Prime Minister to cochair the Investing in Women Task Force. And my objective there is to create the biggest funding pot in the world for female entrepreneurs to make the UK the best place in the world to be a female founder. Because at the moment, it isn't.” Debbie Wosskow

18:40 “I think really perfecting your ask is the art of success. And for founders, it really is important, because you're gonna have to ask a lot of people that you don't know for money and new to get good at.” Debbie Wosskow

22:24 “Money is an emotional topic. So someone coming in, in a very upset way without having done their prep, saying they're trying to buy a house that needs to be paid more, is unlikely to work. I think what does work is prepare, prepare, prepare, go in with the information, reflect on what it is that you're delivering for the business, and why you are underpaid relative to the market. And ask for something specific.” Debbie Wosskow

23:34 “If you don't like what's being said, then change the conversation.” Debbie Wosskow

30:33 If you're a great female investor, sitting just below partner level, you're going to leave right and set up on your own. At the moment, that's a really difficult thing to do. You need to invest quite a lot personally to get the thing off the ground. There are fees, structuring, compliance, legal. And that's also why women don't tend to do it. And why you have a lot of rich white men from a certain background who can do it because there's just an ask at the beginning.” Debbie Wosskow
