Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway
Monday 6th May 2024

In conjunction with the Ffestiniog Railway Society AGM, a series of special trains were ran over the May Bank Holiday weekend, on Bank Holiday Monday, 8 locomotives were in steam on the Ffestiniog, with a special 'Community Day' at Blaenau Ffestiniog station, with extra trains on the Blaenau end of the line.

The day started with a antigravity slate train hauled by new build Double Fairlie James Spooner, which is seen rounding Whistling Curve. A FRS special taking Hunslets Blanche and Lilla for a day of giving footplate rides at Blaenau station, followed the slate train and is seen climbing up Gwyndy Bank.

Visiting from the Richmond Light Railway were Chuquitanta and Lily. Lily is seen crossing the Cob with a short goods train for Boston Lodge.

From high above Boston Lodge, Double Fairlie David Lloyd George is captured crossing the Cob with the Mountain Spirit serving, were Lily is seen returning to Harbour station.We move down the Boston Lodge Halt for Merrdin Emrys on the Woodland Wanderer and then Chuquitanta on the goods to Minffordd.

We move to Cei Mawr for the returning Woodland Wanderer and Mountain Spirit services, before Chuquitanta and Lily double head across the Embankment. With an afternoon shuttle from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Tanybwlch requiring to run round before the little engiens made it to Tanybwlch, this meant there was time to head from Cei Mawr to the bridge on the approach to Tanybwlch to see the goods arrive.

James Spooner hauled the afternoon shuttle to Blaenau Ffestiniog and is seen departing Tanybwlch across Creuau Bank, where we also see the little engines running round their train.

David Lloyd George is captured at Tanybwlch with the afternoon Mountain Spirit, before we return to Porthmadog and see first Linda with The Quarryman service across Bron Madoc, where Chuquitanta and Lily are also seen double heading.

Chuquitanta lead the goods and Lily back to Boston Lodge at the end of the event, seen across the Cob. At Porthmadog we see the Woodland Wanderer return and out on the Cob we see David Lloyd George with the Mountain Spirit ECS to Boston Lodge and finally the returning Blaenau Ffestiniog special train with Lilla, Blanche and James Spooner.
