It's usually not advised to feed wildlife because it changes their natural behavior and they can become dependent on people, which can cause them seek out humans and their property. The biggest problem from this occurs when animals cause harm to people and property, like bears and alligators. But the raccoons we fed were well known to the people in the area and are not threats.

On a side note, it is legal to feed the wild raccoons where we were.
