Exploring the Liberties of the Dutchie of Lancaster- London walking

Follow
Holmesdale Rights of Way

Includes descriptions of the district from the 1603 book A Survey of London by John Stow.

Also known as the Liberty of the Savoy, an area between the Strand and the river which was mainly occupied by mansion houses and palaces.

The extent of the ward is as described by Stow, since then many of the wards of London have changed, also Stow's boundaries often do not match those shown on old maps.
The Agas Map is good for visualising how London looked at the time: https://mapoflondon.uvic.ca/old/6.3/a... . Also Google comes up with detailed old maps of the individual wards.
