Having heard about an abandoned graveyard on edge of the Wyre Forest near town of Bewdley on Shropshire Worcestershire border my wife and I decided to check it out.
Following directions from two blokes out for a walk we found the graveyard and ruins of the old church built in late 1700's tucked away in woodland named Dowles graveyard
There is plenty of interesting tales to be found about this place including the story of a certain Susan Wowan the Witch of Bewdley who was so wicked she grew horns, the mysterious figure that haunts the graveyard and tales of body snatchers! We did come across a grave protected by a mort safe but these are unusual for England.
For a graveyard that is supposedly haunted we found it quite peaceful and not at all eerie but perhaps if we ventured in there at night things might feel a lot different.
