Samsung is building a $17 billion chip fab on 1,200 acres in Taylor, Texas, 30 miles north of Austin. The South Korean company's largestever investment in the U.S., the project is expected to cover 6 million square feet when completed.
Samsung plans to break ground in 2022 and be operational by 2024. The facility will boost the production of semiconductor solutions that will power nextgeneration technologies in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and highperformance computing (HPC).
Samsung expects to create 2,000 hightech jobs at the semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor. It also expects thousands more related jobs once the plant is in full operation.
