UNCLE CARS

The good news for Mazda Australia and a lot of contented CX5 owners is that an official replacement for the popular CX5 has been confirmed. The bad news is that not much information has been released regarding the design or name of the new vehicle, and Mazda Headquarters may choose to alter it.This is a major problem for the local company because in 2023, sales of the CX5 will account for more than 23% of the brand. It was the thirdbestselling midsize SUV in terms of sales, behind the Mitsubishi Outlander and Toyota RAV4. Despite Mazda's best efforts to keep things secret, we do know a great deal about this significant car. Finding a place in the constantly changing Mazda lineup is a major challenge for the CX5. Mazda is spearheading the adoption of its successful "semipremium" strategy in Australia with the launch of its "Large Product Family" of sporty, premiumpositioned automobiles. The CX8, CX9, and CX90 have already been replaced, and the CX70 will probably follow soon.
The tworow, midsize CX60 has already arrived and will replace the CX5 in the current lineup along with this change. There are other reports that the CX5 will simply be phased out due to the availability of the somewhat smaller but more robust CX50 in China and the USA.
Though Mazda has acknowledged that the CX5 will be replaced, they haven't said in what capacity, therefore that is incorrect. It is expected that the new CX5 would stick with its current frontwheel drive and allwheel drive chassis rather than switching to the new "Large Products" rearbiased allwheel drive design. This implies that the vehicle's foundation would probably be different.
This will be the biggest difference between the CX5 and CX60 given the existing gap between the two, and it should allow for a significant pricing premium. The current CX5 range starts at $36,590 for a frontwheel drive Maxx model and reaches out at $55,100 for the Akera allwheel drive. This puts it behind the entrylevel CX60 Evolve, which is priced from $60,550. Perhaps the most significant question is whether the new CX5 will even go by the moniker CX5. In June of last year, Mazda Australia's Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi, said he wasn't sure how long the brand will be used globally.
