Considered one of Canada's most prestigious postsecondary institutions, the University of Toronto, also known as UofT, was founded in 1827 by a royal charter as "King's College." In 1850 the institution changed its name to its present moniker and contains 2 satellite campuses throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
