Emeralds are among the most valuable of gems and there have been recent new discoveries of emeralds in the USA. So it's possible to prospect for and find them. The value of emeralds depends on their depth of color, flaws, size, and crystal form. Emerald value can range from a few dollars to tens of thousands of dollars per carat, depending on quality. Emerald is the mineral beryl colored green by chromium or Vanadium. Emerald’s lush green has soothed souls and excited imaginations since antiquity. To make an emerald you need to form beryl in a zone that also has the elements chromium or Vanadium present. But because the chemistry of Beryllium and that of chromium or Vanadium are very different, they don’t often occur together – this is why emerald is rare.
