Neon Genesis Evangelion and Sigmund Freud. Two controvertail topics at once, what could go wrong?

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most popular anime of all time, toping many watch lists since it's 1990's release. Following Shinji Ikari, as well as Asuka Langley and Rei Ayanami, as the trio pilot the Eva Units (00, 01, & 02) against the invadin angels for NERV. But, we quickly learn not all is as it seems, with the anime develoving into a psychological exploration of the characters, and its creator Hideaki Anno all at once. With this kind of pscyhological exporation, there has to be an inspiration from somewhere, and for Neon Genesis Evangelion and Anno, that inspiration was Sigmund Freud, the most famous pscyhoanalyst. His theories on the structure of the mind, psychosexual development, life and death drives (Eros & Thanatos), and much more can be found in the anime, especially with Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langely.
