VideoVoyage.TV

The first half of the new BudapestBalaton cycle route (which is part of the Eurovelo 14) from the Chain Bridge in Budapest to Lake Venice. The road is mostly of very good quality and passes through beautiful scenery, but less fit cyclists and families should be prepared for plenty of climbs.

The second half of the route (Velence→Székesfehérvár→Balatonakarattya):    • Eurovelo 14: Velence→Balaton (Hungary...

The tour starts in the centre of Budapest, at the foot of the Chain Bridge, which is under renovation. After the Buda quay and Bartók Béla út, we pass the underpass under Kelenföld railway station, then we reach the Budaörs Kamaraerdő on Kőérberek street. The official Balaton bike and Eurovelo 14 route starts here, and it's a good place to start if you don't want to cycle through the city.

You will reach Törökbálint on a highquality bicycle road, and after passing through the settlement you can continue cycling on a mostly highquality cycle path to Biatorbágy along the railway line to Bicske. After reaching the Biatorbágy viaduct, we enter the town, where the official continuation of the route is not yet ready. In the video, we ride along the quiet Patak and then Géza fejedelem streets, which is expected to become the official cycle route, with several places already signposted.

After Biatorbágy, we can cycle uphill again on a high quality bike road, occasionally glancing back and forth at Lake Bia. After a few minor climbs we reach the town of Etyek, where after a short roll we are faced with the steepest part of the whole route, where it is not a shame to push the bike. After a tough section for easy weekend cyclists, families and older riders, there are reward rolls all the way to Gyuró (after one or two more climbs).

Between Gyúró and Tordas there is a relatively good quality flat cycle path, which was completed a long time ago, and then you can turn right at Tordas and continue on the newly completed cycle path also with climbs to Kajászó. After that you can descend to Pázmánd via a long descent, then turn off at Nadap towards Venice and soon you can see the lake itself.
